The Elisa Lam case

Image
January 31, 2013 was the last time Elisa Lam was seen. The place, the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles, known for its history of suicides, murders and unexplained deaths. One more had to be added to the list when, on January 31, 2013, Elisa stopped answering her parents' calls. Days later, some images of the surveillance video in the elevator prior to Elisa's disappearance were published. An even stranger behavior is perceived in that video: it seems that Elisa was communicating with invisible people, looking through a corner of the door and opening and closing it. There were various theories, from a psychotic break to demonic possession. While the investigation continued, some guests of the hotel where Elisa was staying began to complain about a succession of strange things in the hotel's own water supply, such as the water suddenly turning black for a few minutes, or that it was changing the flavor. After the complaints, an employee of the Hotel Cecil decided to go up to check ...

Adulterated food

Not long ago, a rumor was spreading on the internet that KFC had to remove the word chicken from its name because in reality, ce qu'ils vendaient était not chicken, but something genetically created. Some amazing photos even circulate. Food is often the victim of urban myths : MacDonald's hamburgers sont actually faits de worms, Chinese restaurants serve dog meat, and cans of MacDonald's pâte feature cockroaches. These legends are nourished by the fact that sometimes scandalous news does jump into the newspapers, like the one about the Ikea cake in whose analysis they found human excrement, but I want to think that in Europe at least there is strict control of security measures and food hygiene, right ? My favorite urban food legend comes from my childhood, a rumor spread at school that if you mixed Coca-Cola with aspirin it would come out dope. Thus, in hyperonyme : "drug". I don't know about the drug, but it sure is an explosive mixture for the stomach. Span...

The clown's smile

Image
A classic in Madrid's halls of residence that little by little spread to other Spanish university environments. The story goes that a young girl was waiting for the night bus at a bus stop in the Metropolitan area, the most important center of residences in the capital. The place is characterized by being surrounded by parks on the university campus, which in conjunction with the buildings of the empty faculties and the night, was undoubtedly a setting worthy of a horror movie. While the girl was waiting for her bus, a group of neo-Nazi-looking boys arrived in the area and began to harass her. The situation ended with them "drawing" the so-called clown smile on her face so that she could not scream, because their macabre intention was to rape her. The said smile is nothing more than a cut on each side of the corner of the mouth that prevents the victim from screaming to avoid tearing herself even more. The facts could not be verified, but the rumors were so insistent tha...

The ghost waiter

No, it is not about a cocky bartender qui hesitates quand you ask for a beer - there are, but luckily those are more laughable than scary. Everyone knows someone qui, while traveling, went to have a drink in a lonely bar in the town where he s'était trouvé. To pass the time and disconnect after many hours behind the wheel, the driver consumes several gin & tonics in lively conversation with the waiter.  According to legend, the stranger returns the next day and meets another bartender.  When asking about his partner, if he is free that day, he finds out to his astonishment that the establishment had been closed the night before.  Right now we are all visualizing a roadside bar near a dusty motel on Route 66, but the fact is that this legend also has its Celtiberian version.  I heard it recently, from a friend quise father était an air commander et avait spent du temps at the Los Llanos Air Base in Albacete. When he returned to that base six mois later for a...

Not only dogs lick

Image
This urban legend is located in a small town in France and, according to what can be read on the internet, it was published in some local newspapers. The protagonist is a 9-year-old girl, the daughter of a high-class marriage, well connected in political and aristocratic matters. This is why the parents, avec une intense social life, décidèrent de donner à la fille un dog pour la protéger et la garder durant ses absences à dinners, parties et so on. The dog took to sleeping under the little girl's bed as a habit and, when she got night fears, she would drop her hand and then the dog would lick it to reassure her. One night, après avoir entendu quelques noises at home durant une de ses parents'absences, the girl got scared and, as usual, dropped her hand and her faithful companion began to lick it until she calmed down. However, when he got out of bed hours later, he discovered his dismembered pet in the living room and a graffiti made with his blood on the wall, which read :...

The film Child's Play, where a child has a doll with an evil spirit inside, is based on a true story. Robert is a life-size doll that belonged to the boy Gene Otto. Apparemment a servant got angry with the family and put a spell on the doll. The boy began to talk to him et, à everyone's surprise, he reçut une réponse. However, few believed what Gene said about the doll moving objects. After his death, Robert passed from hand to hand and is now in a museum where, they say, strange things happen.     Spanish Version.-     La película Child’s Play, donde un niño tiene un muñeco con un espíritu maligno dentro, está basada en una historia real.
